SUPERNOVA tells the story of Tusker and Sam, who have been a couple for years. The problem is, Tusker has been demented for a few years and things are getting worse. They decide to leave to visit their family and friends in their old caravan, thus reminding them of the trips of yesteryear.
The story is very classic in appearance. Two people who love each other, an illness, a road trip … nothing ever seen before in short. The difficulty therefore lies in making it attractive, credible and touching without ever falling into pathos and exaggeration. This is where the brilliance of Harry Macqueen comes into play. The writing is fine and sensitive while the staging, minimalist, is posed, without grandiloquence or artifice in order to leave room for the performers and the emotion generated. .
Because if the film is already, and it will be even more when it is released in most territories, as much greeted, it is obviously due in majority thanks to its duo of actors: Colin Firth (THE KING’S SPEECH, A SINGLE MAN) and Stanley Tucci (SPOTLIGHT, HUNGER GAMES). Let it be said, we have rarely, if not ever, seen one or the other so good and so poignant. It is obvious that the context favors stronger performances, but we have known the qualities of Firth and Tucci for many, many years. We therefore know the extent of their range of play, of their emotions. Despite everything, they manage to surprise and touch the heart like they have never done before. Their relationship is credible, because their way of exchanging works perfectly (another big thumbs up for the writing), so there is a real feeling of complementarity and unity. However, from a more individual point of view, we can see a wealth of emotions delivered through their facial expressions and gestures. If the dialogues are irreproachable,
SUPERNOVA creates an easily understandable deserved craze. He has an impressive force strike in order to grab spectators in unexpected ways. Harry Macqueen signed a very strong work which arouses a general enthusiasm and a strong enthusiasm for its actors. Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci are in the shape of their lives so well that we should see them winning several awards at the various ceremonies to follow. Anyway, SUPERNOVA is one of those great surprises that we did not expect and that we highly recommend.
